Child Life of Greater New York (CLGNY) supports our members as they advocate for Child Life Services in the Greater NY Metropolitan area through collaboration and networking in a changing healthcare environment.
CLGNY seeks to educate Child Life Professionals, healthcare professionals and the community to empower children and families in providing support, play, preparation, and coping techniques when facing challenging life events.
CLGNY will support the development and commitment of Child Life Professionals who provide psychosocial care, advance the profession, and better serve the children and families on a local, national, and global level based on research and evidence based practice.
History of CLGNY
In the mid-1980s, a group of child life specialists from local hospitals began meeting together to discuss best practices and advance the field of child life in the greater New York area.
As the group grew, the members began sharing their knowledge with the community through local health fairs and in 1994 held the first annual CLGNY conference for child life specialists and allied health practitioners.
As more hospitals incorporated child life programs, the group continued to add new members. Today, CLGNY proudly boasts 47 child life leaders from 38 member organizations.
